A Rich History of Innovation

Dr. Dale E. Wurster invents and patents the Wurster fluid bed coating process at the University of Wisconsin. His pioneering work lays the foundation for modern micro-encapsulation techniques.

1950-1960s

Harlan Hall establishes Coating Place Inc. in Verona, Wisconsin, with the original Wurster technology. The company quickly expands, enhancing its capabilities and developing new coating methods.

1970s

Coating Place introduces the first micro-coater for research and advances Wurster coating technology with larger, multi-nozzle units, enabling commercial-scale production.

1980s

The company revolutionizes the industry with proprietary linear scalability, allowing seamless transition from research to commercial manufacturing.

1990s

Facility expansions and technological advancements mark a period of significant growth, including the introduction of DEA-licensed controlled substance processing.

2000s

Coating Place acquires a second manufacturing facility in Sauk City, Wisconsin, expanding its specialty chemical and food-grade manufacturing capabilities.

2010s

Continued innovation and facility upgrades ensure Coating Place remains at the cutting edge of Wurster coating technology, now capable of handling Schedule I controlled substances.
